Courtyard inspired by Cartagena in Colombia, made as a bundle with my Substance Source Signature Series.
The idea was to build a simple environment to showcase how to use the materials in context.

I chose to go with a courtyard to control the space like an interior while still keeping natural light flowing in. You will find here images for every steps from reference gathering, material planification, mockup, scene composition and assets production.

Everything here is modeled by hand and the scene is real time rendered in the Unreal Engine 4.
I built many asset using tileable materials, then blended them together in engine. I also used trim sheet materials to create a wider variety of assets.
Some elements like the pilars, fountain or stairs have been sculpted in ZBrush and textured in Substance Painter to get more specific details in the scene.
I also used ZBrush for the doors figurative knockers to showcase a material with external heights.
