The Grand Bath

I wanted to create an environment inspired by Jean-Leon Gérôme, The Great Bath of Bursa for a very long time. I mixed many inspirations to create a decayed place that could be on the Silk Road, somewhere near Damascus. For the patina and aging I heavily relied on the lamentations wall of Jerusalem mixed with some Hubert Robert decayed treatment. It was a very interesting project that allowed me to play with the Unreal Engine 5 and explore new recipes.

__________

I wanted this project to stay small and focus on an illustrative vertical shot. I approached it like I would work a benchmark area or beautiful corner for a bigger environment, trying to create recipes that could scale up easily.
The most interesting part of the process was that instead of doing materials that contain everything and rely on displace I kept the destruction and patina pass in engine. It allows me to reuse assets like the stones in the walls, arches, door frames but also rubbles.

__________

Everything here was made by me except the small vegetations which come from the Megascan library. The scene is rendered in the Unreal Engine 5 using Lumen.
This project is simple but if something is not clear don't hesitate to ask me for more details.

Thanks a lot to my wife and friends who supported me while I was playing with rocks for weeks ^^ .

Walls, arches, door frames and rubbles are all made from the same stones.

Every assets like this destructible Lion, Pilars, Oil Lamps etc are individual kits, reusable in many context.
